Herdsmen/farmers crisis: Buhari summons IGP for flouting orders to relocate to Benue

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, March 13, summoned the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, for flouting orders given to him on relocating to Benue state.
The president summoned the IGP to explain why he failed to relocate to Benue state to fast track the end of clashes and killing between herdsmen and farmers in the state.
Tribune reports that a top source at the presidency said the inspector general of police was at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday morning. The source said the president demanded to be provided with a full report on the crisis in Benue till date. He said the report may be the basis for the decision on the IGP's fate.

“Police IG, Idris was the first caller this morning at the Presidential villa apparently to explain his flouting of the president’s order to remain in Benue at the height of the incidence between farmers and herdsmen. President Buhari is believed to have summoned the IG received him in a private audience.
“The IG left about 30 minutes after without speaking to anyone. It is believed that the president demanded a full report on police operations till date after which he will make further decisions.
“There is a renewed resolve to make sure that the killings and bad security situation in Benue state abates," the source said.
The visit of the IGP to the Presidential Villa was also confirmed by the senior special assistant to President Buhari on media and publicity Garba Shehu.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the president had said he was unaware that the inspector general of police flouted his order on his relocation to Benue state.
The president while paying a courtesy visit to the people of the state said he did the right thing by asking the police boss to move to Benue but never knew his orders were not carried out by Idris.
President Buhari also dismissed claims that he did not care or abandoned the people of Benue state since the crisis between the herdsmen and the farmers began.
