Buhari holds meeting with farmers, Miyetti Allah in Benue

- President Buhari meets with top government officials in Benue state

- The Miyetti Allah denies involvement in the incessant attacks happening the state

- Garba Shehu says the president will listen to all the parties involved in the conflict before offering his condolences

President Muhammadu Buhari has held a meeting with farmers, the Myetti Allah and other groups in Benue state as a means of finding a lasting solution to the incessant attacks and killings in the state.

Channels TV reports that Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state and other top government officials in the state attended the meeting which began shortly after the president arrived the state on Monday, March 12.

Other groups at the meeting included representatives of Miyetti Allah group, representatives of farmers in Benue state, Benue state Livestock guard, Benue Joint Sociocultural Group Mzough U-Tiv, among others.

During the meeting, the Miyetti Allah which has been accused of being behind the killings in the state denied involvement in the incessant attacks, while the farmers appealed to President Buhari to take steps to end the killings.

Meanwhile, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said President Buhari, on his condolence visit to Benue state would have a meeting with stakeholders and listen to all parties before offering his condolence to those affected.

Shehu made this statement on Sunday, March 11, while reacting to criticisms trailing President Buhari's reaction to the several deaths caused by herdsmen/farmers clashes.

He faulted claims that the president’s visit to the state is politically motivated, saying his principal was engaging in more of acting than talking to stop the killings.

The commander of the Benue State Livestock Guard, Aliyu Tershaku also denied allegations that the security agency is head of the militia in Benue state
