Mass sack looms at JAMB over corrupt practices
- Following the shady financial practices uncovered at the JAMB, many officials might soon lose their jobs
- Large amounts of monies from the sale of scratch cards have reportedly gone missing at the agency’s offices in several states
- At the Benue office, a clerk claimed a snake had swallowed N36m; and the JAMB spokesman has said all those found guilty might lose their jobs and also be prosecuted
A number of officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) found culpable in the misappropriation of public funds in their care will most likely be sacked from their jobs, Daily Trust reports.
Following an internal audit, it was discovered that in several state offices, millions of naira generated from the sale of scratch cards to candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could not be accounted for.
Legit.ng gathers that a senior official stated that the recommendation was given for the mass sack after investigators were left unsatisfied with the explanations offered by some state coordinators and a clerk involved in the matter.

The official stated that the corrupt practices took place before the current JAMB registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, assumed the leadership of the agency. He stated that Oloyede is now “running the most transparent administration, and any official involved in any dishonest transaction will have himself to blame.”
A clerk at the Benue office had claimed that N36 million gotten from sale of scratch cards had been swallowed by a mysterious snake. The sum of N1.3 million is also reportedly missing at the Ondo office; N31 million is missing at the Edo office, while auditors have been unable to trace the whereabouts of N7 million in Kogi state.
In Nasarawa state, N23 million was discovered missing; while officials allegedly mismanaged N16 million in Plateau state. In Gombe state, N10.2 million is still unaccounted for, N20 million is missing in the Kano office, and in the Yobe office, N613,000 has been confirmed missing.
Dr Fabian Banjamin, the JAMB spokesman, has said all those found guilty might lose their jobs and also be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that following the missing 36 million from the office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, its registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, slammed Nigerians that have been making jokes with it.
Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk in JAMB office, Makurdi, had claimed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen to "spiritually" swallow N36 million from the vault in her office.
During interrogation by a team of auditors, she claimed that Asen and her accomplices confessed that they had been stealing the money spiritually through a mysterious snake that always sneaked to swallow the money from the vault.
