He had an unsuccessful for office of governor in 2011. But in 2014 he was presented as a candidate from APC party. And as a result at the 11 April of 2015, he became a winner of gubernatorial election. Masari defeated his opponent Musa Nashuni.

The governor of Katsina state is known as a former lawmaker, who criticizes the policy of most Nigerian governors. The former speaker expresses his opinion about the political way of most these leaders who focus on issues that concern sharing of the country’s revenue, forgetting about other issues.
Masari claims that there is no true federalism in the country. Another critical commentary is that the federal government should not determine a uniform salary for all political office holders.
One of his major area of work is the development of education in the state. He claims education is a significant issue for any society. He even created an additional committee to work on educational issues.
Mr. Masari started a real educational revolution in the state. According to Aminu Masari, the educated people are the primary resource of the country.
