2019 election: APC begins registration of new members in Ebonyi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun registration of new members in its chapter in Ebonyi state.

The registration, the party said is aimed at granting defectors who joined the party since 2015 an opportunity to fully belong to APC.

Vanguard reports that the ruling party said a six-member committee will be raised in each of the 13 local government in state to monitor the progress of the registration.

The APC chairman of Ebonyi state, Eze Nwachukwu, while making the announcement on Friday, February 9, in Ngbo, Ohaukwu local government area said Ebonyi was given a waiver to register its new members.

Nwachukwu said the registration waiver was granted to the state to enable it admit defectors who joined the party since 2015.

He said while registration would take place at ward levels, the committees would supervise the exercise.

Adding that the exercise would last for six days, Nwachukwu urged all party members to make good use of the opportunity to formalise their membership.

Nwachukwu said: “The membership registration is designed to enable decampees who joined the party since 2015 who are yet to officially register with the party to do so.

“The exercise is to take place at ward levels and open to interested members of the public, wishing to register with the party.

This is a special waiver granted to Ebonyi, and any member who misses the opportunity will wait till 2020, and will not participate in our elective congresses and primary elections."

He also called on all eligible electorate to participate fully in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), and described the exercise as crucial for the general elections in 2019.

“We have visited 10 out of the 13 local government areas of the state preaching the good news of the importance of participating in the CVR and we are here for the exercise.

“Please do not ignore this good message. If you have not registered, go and register and safeguard your card.

"Your voter card is your property and the only power and right you have to participate in choosing your leaders," Nwachukwu added.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state decamped to APC.

Aminu Yusuf announced that he was leaving the party for the All Progressives Congress.

Channels TV reports that Yusuf dumped the PDP on Friday, February 9.

Yusuf’s action is coming just a few weeks after Liman Iya who is the minority whip of the state House of Assembly dumped the PDP at the floor of the House.
