There will be no restructuring before and after 2019 - APC senator blasts El-Rufai

- Senator Shehu Sani said the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-rufai, is anti-restructuring

- Sani said the report by the restructuring committee led by El-Rufai is a campaign document for 2019

- The senator also said the committee was meant to distract Nigerians from former president Olusegun Obasanjo's controversial letter

Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central senatorial district has blasted the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the restructuring committee's report which he claimed is substandard and a document to campaign during the 2019 elections.

Sani, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed that report from the restructuring committee led by El-Rufai was a way to distract Nigerians from the controversial letter former president Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Buhari advising him not to run in 2019.

The committee's report which will be submitted to the Senate on Thursday, recommended devolution of power to states, establishment of state police and independent candidacy.

Premium Times reports that Senator Sani said that the report is substandard and the Senate would discard it.

He said: “El-Rufai APC restructuring committee is self-serving, political gimmick aimed at diverting attention away from Obasanjo’s letter. It’s also a campaign document for 2019. It’s not a report worthy of the paper it was written.

"El-Rufai is anti-restructuring. There will be no restructuring before and after 2019.The President had repeatedly made it clear that the problem is process so what are we talking about.

“El-Rufai simply want to eat his cake and have it; orally calling supporters of restructuring as opportunists and on the other hand submitting a report in support of it.

“When eventually the El-Rufai restructuring committee reaches the senate, it will be photocopied to 109 pieces and shared to the senators to use as Toilet paper. If there are extra copies, it will be shared to Suya and Akara hawkers outside the National Assembly to use it to wrap their products.

“El-Rufai restructuring report will be shredded and modify to serve as a good toilet paper for senators. If there’s seriousness in restructuring it could have started in 2015."

Legit.ng previously reported that Bayelsa state governor Seriake Dickson has praised the latest moves to restructure Nigeria by the APC.

Dickson on Friday, January 26, commended the APC’s restructuring committee chaired by Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai over the recommendations it made in its report recently submitted to party chairman John Odigie-Oyegun.

According to the report, while Dickson believes that there is still a lot to be done because restructuring a nation as big as Nigeria can be cumbersome; he was however impressed by the moves made the APC so far.
