EFCC loses bid to probe Ekiti state finances
- The Federal High Court restrains EFCC from arresting or investigating any official of the Ekiti state government
- Ibrahim Magu calls on African leaders to support Nigeria’s war against corruption
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been restrained by the Federal High Court from investigating the finances of the Ekiti state government.
The court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, January 30, held that the anti-graft agency lacked the powers to investigate the finances of a state, adding that in federalism, the federal government is not an overseer or supervisor regarding finances of a state.

The verdict by the court was shared by Governor Ayo Fayose on Twitter.
Fayose said the EFCC was also restrained from arresting or investigating any official of the Ekiti state government.
Meanwhile, EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, on Monday, January 29, said it is important that African leaders support Nigeria’s president in his war against corruption.

Legit.ng gathered that Magu at the 30th AU summit in Addis Ababa told journalists that African leaders must therefore support President Buhari in his task as the champion of AU’s fight against corruption for successful anti-corruption war.
Magu further said that the political will is the driving force of fight against corruption and that the agency is committed to continue its fight despite the many challenges.
The 30th AU Summit which is themed “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation." is the first time in the 54-year history that anti-corruption will be made a theme of the gathering of the regional leaders.
