NAF announces establishment of operational bases in Cross River, Akwa Ibom states

- The CAS made the announcement at the NAF first quarter 2018 route march exercise for personnel serving in Abuja
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to build a Forward Operational Base (FOB) each in Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom states respectively.
This was announced by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar on Saturday, January 28.
The CAS made the announcement at the NAF first quarter 2018 route march exercise for personnel serving in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He further stated that the FOB in Mubi, Adamawa state would be activated while an annex of Headquarters Mobility Command would be established in Akwa Ibom state.
“All these are being done to proactively tackle emerging security issues in the South-south region,” the CAS said.
The march exercise was led by the CAS, with serving National Youth Service Corps members and journalists also participating.
Legit.ng gathered that the aim of the exercise was to keep officers and men of the service physically and mentally fit to enable them perform their statutory role effectively.
The 10 kilometers route march exercise kicked off from Mogadishu Military Cantonment to Niger Barracks and back.
While addressing participants at the end of the exercise, the CAS commended personnel for demonstrating a high level of physical fitness, stating that today’s security challenges are very complex and require a sound mind in a sound body.
He encouraged personnel to remain focused and professional in the discharge of their constitutional role, adding that the NAF would not allow any territory of Nigeria to be undermined by anyone.
He assures the personnel of the readiness of the NAF leadership to continually improve their welfare as they continue to act in the defence of the territorial integrity of the nation.
Meanwhile, the NAF on Thursday, January 24, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Machine Tools (NMT), Oshogbo as part of the its efforts to reinforce the culture of self-reliance.
The signing of the MoU is also aimed at furthering NAF’s strategic partnerships with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) towards enhancing research and development.
Legit.ng gathered that some of the areas of partnership in the MoU include training, machining, fabrication, casting as well as research and development. The MoU also covers the development and provision of personal, vehicular and aircraft protective equipment.
