Governor Dickson calls for restructuring of Nigeria before 2019 polls

- Dickson applauded the ruling APC for taking the bull by the horn in this very important matter

- He added that while he was impressed by moves made so far, the process of restructuring Nigeria must be completed by the next elections

- He noted that Nigerian politicians can no longer delay the matter because it was now on the front burner

Bayelsa state governor Seriake Dickson has praised the latest moves to restructure Nigeria by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Premium Times reports that Dickson on Friday, January 26, commended the APC’s restructuring committee chaired by Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai over the recommendations it made in its report recently submitted to party chairman John Odigie-Oyegun.

According to the report, while Dickson believes that there is still a lot to be done because restructuring a nation as big as Nigeria can be cumbersome; he was however impressed by the moves made the APC so far.

“Even though we have a long way to go to fine-tune this, I commend and appreciate their commitment to building a stable, equitable and, therefore, prosperous Nigeria,” the governor told reporters at the Bayelsa State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Dickson however argued that the entire matter must be resolved before 2019 elections, noting that politicians can no longer play hide-and-seek with the issue of restructuring.

He said:“Nigeria must be restructured before 2019 elections. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC committee on restructuring submitted its report to the national chairman of the party, Odigie-Oyegun on Thursday, January 25, making several recommendations based on the opinions of Nigerians.

Legit.ng gathered that Governor of Kaduna and chairman of the committee Nasir el-Rufai, speaking at the presentation of the report said when the recommendations were passed by the national assembly, “they will significantly re-balance our federation”.

The committee which was set up in August 2017 to formulate the position of the party on true federalism, which clamour gained currency over a year ago, initially had 10 members but was later expanded to 23 members.
