The spokesperson of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, in response to questions about why Nigeria was still purchasing fighter jets in spite of reports of success against the insurgents, insisted that success was being recorded and the new addition was to consolidate on the effort being made.
He wrote: "Boko Haram’s capability to operate freely has been decimated. Super Tucano Aircraft required to consolidate on successes recorded so far. #AskTheAirForce"
According to him, the force's recent acquisitions include aircraft from Russia, Pakistan and China.

Asked why the force goes for Super Tucano instead of Modern Aircraft like F-16,F-35 and the likes, Adesanya said defence procurement has its complexities.
Legit.ng had earlier reported that the United States agreed to proceed to supply fighter jets to Nigeria as the country continues to make moves to defeat Boko Haram terrorism.
There has been speculation that relationship between the two countries had strained due to Nigeria voting in support of the UN that rejected President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
However, in a statement by Adesanya who is the director of public relations of the Nigerian Air Force on Wednesday, December 27, it was revealed that the US was committed to helping Nigeria fight insurgency.
