Tears as fire razes 3 buildings in Lagos, properties lost
- Three houses in Lagos at the Gowon Estate, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Egbeda area of Lagos have been gutted by fire
- The fire was noticed by one of the victims who just returned from outing
- A combined team of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other officials helped to carry out rescue efforts
Some residents of Gowon Estate, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Egbeda area of Lagos, are currently counting their losses as a midnight fire on gutted three duplexes on 34 Road, B Close on Friday, January 19.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was no casualty recorded in the incident, but witnesses explained that the fire was first noticed at about 7.15 pm in one of the duplexes before spreading to others.
The witness said that an occupant in one of duplexes, who had just returned, opened the door and met the raging fire.
He was said to have immediately raised an alarm which attracted neighbours and sympathisers.

The witness said this attracted more sympathisers who joined in the rescue effort until a combined team of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the fire service officials arrived the scene helped to quench the fire.
Some of the residents reportedly commended the early arrival of the LASEMA personnel, saying that they got to the scene 30 minutes after being called.
“They came with five trucks, all with sufficient water that tackled the inferno before it was finally put-off,” the Community Development Association (CDA) chairman, Nathanel Okoro, said.
Okoro also praised the DPO of the Gowon Estate police station, Adeniyi Adedeji, for personally leading his team to the scene to provide security.
“Although the LASEMA official did not know the location of the fire incident if not for the assistance of the police who escorted them,’’ he said.
A LASEMA officer, Olaolu Odufuwa, said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.

The report said the estate had also recorded a late night inferno on November 28, 2017, which destroyed five of the eight shops attached to a Union Bank building on 411 Road Junction.
Legit.ng earlier a massive fire destroyed the official residence of the Imo state deputy governor, Eze Madumere, located at the commissioners’ quarters in Owerri, the capital of the state on Thursday, January 19, with properties destroyed.
A report by Channels Television said the fire incident affected an apartment and damaged valuable properties.
