When people want to be mischievous they bring religion and ethnicity - Amosun

- Governor Amosun accused politicians and elites of dividing Nigeria for their own selfish reasons

- The governor said that politicians are guilty of dredging up religion and ethnic differences to divide the people

Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has accused politicians and elites of dividing the country for their own selfish reasons by using dichotomy, religion and ethnicity when it suits them to break the unity of Nigerians.

The governor made this statement on Friday, January 19, at Abeokuta, during the opening of a media workshop for State House Press Corps with the theme: “The Role of The Media in Peace Building: 2019 in Perspective”.

He said:“When you look at us as a nation, I hope I will not be roasted for saying this, it is we the elite or politicians that are more often than not for selfish reasons that try and bring those things that will divide us.

“An average Nigerian either from the north, south, east or west are their brother’s keeper really. But when people want to be mischievous , they now bring dichotomy, ethnicity, religion and all of those."

Premium Times reports that Amosun said inflammatory remarks are doing more damage to the country which is currently going through several challenges.

He added that: “There is no nation without its challenges, it is the way we manage our challenges really. When we have issues we should not come out and say what will inflame the country or through write ups and comments. I think we should talk more on those things that unite us.

“For me, when you say it the way it is even though sometimes we may not like it, but we can look at it and see how we can do it better. I believe if we all do that, Nigeria will be better for it."

Legit.ng previously reported that Ogun state government has commenced the sale of its locally produced rice known as Ofada rice and was formally launched by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

The rice which goes for N11,500 was unveiled on Thursday, December 21, 2017.

According to the governor, the rice named Mitros rice is packaged in 50kg bags. Amosun said it was tragic that Nigeria had to depend on food import but said with this new production, Ogun farmers would not have to travel far to mill their rice.
