Boko Haram attacks killed 5,247 Muslims in 7 local governments - Islamic council

- Madagali local government suffered the highest loss of lives with around 2,500 victims

- Michika lost most properties, valued at about N23.3bn, from the Boko Haram attacks

- No fewer than over 5,000 other people suffered various degrees of injuries in the attacks on the seven local government areas

The Adamawa state chapter of the Muslim Council has revealed that no fewer than 5,247 Muslims have died from Boko Haram violence in seven local government areas of the state in the past five years.

The Council which comprises all Islamic organisations in the state said the affected local governments are Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Mubi North, Mubi South, Hong and Gombi.

Madagali has the highest number of dead victims with 2,500 people while Hong has the least with 68.

The Council also said that another 5,161 Muslims sustained various degrees of injuries in the same area.

Premium Times writes that the statistics were contained in a report on the insurgent crisis as it affected the state signed by the Adamawa branch chairman of the council Abubakar Magaji and secretary-general Ismaila Umaru.

The report added that 12,732 properties belonging to Muslims in the councils, including houses, mosques, livestock and farm produce – worth N81.6 billion – were destroyed.

Muslims in Michika lost properties the most, valued at about N23.3 billion, while Maiha has the least with N157 million worth of properties.

The report was presented to state governor Muhammadu Bindow.

Additionally, it recommended support for the victims by the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative and reconstruction of places of worship and Islamic schools that were destroyed.

In a related vein, Legit.ng reported earlier that President Muhammadu Buhari said the thought of the remaining abducted 113 Chibok girls still occupies his mind.

Legit.ng gathered that President Buhari made the declaration on Saturday, December 30, in a message to residents of Chibok.

He noted that the scenario surrounding the abduction of the girls was regrettable; stressing that he was not comfortable with unfolding events.
