15 die in fatal road crash in Jigawa

- The accident was between an overloaded car and a truck without headlights speeding on the road at 9pm

- The victims included men, women and children who were all buried on Sunday morning

- The truck driver Umar has been arrested by the Jigawa state police command for causing the death of people with his reckless driving

Not fewer than 15 people lost their lives on Saturday, December 30, just 48 hours before the New Year celebrations, after a truck loaded with sand collided with an overloaded car.

Daily Sun reports that among the dead in the accident which happened at about 9pm were eight men, four women and three children.

The victims were buried early on Sunday, December 31 while the truck driver, one Isyaku Umar, has been arrested, according to Jigawa police spokesperson Audu Jinjiri.

Premium Times that the unfortunate incident happened at Garin Ciroma, a village in Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

The crash occurred between a Volkswagen Gulf 3 car which was overloaded with 15 persons instead of seven collided with the truck while returning from Gwaram Local Government Area on its way to a village in Gwiwa Local Government Area.

Council Chairman of Gwiwa Local Government Area Audu Daurawa, who confirmed the incident, said all the victims were from the area.

The Federal Road Safety Corps sector commander in Jigawa Angus Ibezim also confirmed the accident.

He said the truck’s headlights were faulty, thus the car coming from the opposite direction was not aware of it.

Meanwhile, there is good news in Abuja where President Muhammadu Buhari's son is at a hospital after an accident.

Legit.ng reported earlier that injured President Buhari’s son Yusuf is said to be positively responding to treatment at the the private hospital where he is being treated for injuries he sustained from a bike accident.

Following the improvement in the health of Yusuf, the presidency is not under any pressure to fly him abroad for emergency treatment.

Sources close to the presidency told the newspaper that the presidency had opted to ‘wait and see’ whether it was still necessary to ferry him out or not.

One of the sources said the wife of the president, Aisha, had virtually relocated to the private medical facility to attend to Yusuf.
