Ekweremadu donates goods worth millions of naira to IDP camps, fetes Enugu widows
- In the spirit of the Christmas season, deputy president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, donated gift items to IDPs from various northern states
- Ekweremadu and his wife also celebrated with 250 widows from Enugu state
- Each of the widow got N10,000, a bag of rice and wrappers
The deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, spent December 26 donating gift items worth millions of naira to camps in Borno and Yobe states occupied by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Ekweremadu and his wife, Lady Nwanneka, also celebrated the season with 250 widows from Enugu state and gave each of them wrappers and food items to them.
Making the presentation to the IDPs from Borno and Yobe states, Ekweremadu, who was represented by his special assistant on political matters and former chairman of Conference of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Inuwa Garba, urged the victims of insurgency to be patient with the government.

Vanguard reports that Ekweremadu assured the victims that the National Assembly and President Muhammadu Buhari administration were working hand-in-hand to end insurgency and make them return to their homes.
He said: “But until we achieve that, you deserve all the support the government, kind-spirited Nigerians and the international community can offer to ameliorate your challenges and put smiles on your faces.”
The chairman of IDPs from Borno and Yobe states, Alhaji Abba Danbuwa, and his colleague from Adamawa, who resides in Southern Gombe, Mr Michael Ntebuwa, thanked the legislator for consistently reaching out to Nigerians in various IDP camps in the North East.
In Enugu, the lawmaker and his family celebrated with 250 widows drawn the five local government areas of his senatorial district as part of his annual tradition since 1997.
Each of the widows got N10,000 cash, a bag of rice, and wrappers.

Lady Nnwaneka explained the gesture was aimed at ensuring the joy of Christmas went round.
Legit.ng earlier reported how the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said 239,349 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) benefited from its medical outreach programme between July 2015 and Nov. 2, 2017.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, AVM Olatokunbo Adesanya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Adesanya said that the service had in 2015 started devoting a lot of resources to cater for the needs of the IDPs in the North-East and other parts of the country.
