Nigerian Air Force commissions new hostel in Jos, immortalise victims of insurgency (photos)
- The Nigeria Air Force has commissioned two projects at the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School (AFGCS), Jos
- The projects include a hostel built to enhance the existing conducive learning environment for the students of the school
- The projects commissioned by the governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong, were built in honour of victims of insurgency in Nigeria
The Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday, December 5, commissioned a new hostel accommodation for the senior students of the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School (AFGCS), Jos.
The hostel was commissioned to enhance the existing conducive learning environment for the students of the school.
According to a statement released by the director of public relations and information of the Nigerian Air Force, a block of 30 by one bedroom fully furnished residential accommodation was also commissioned.

The residential accommodation was named after late Corporal Timon PM, NAF00/20247, who died on January 27, 2012 while fighting insurgencies in the Operation Zaman Lafiya.
The statement said: "The newly commissioned girls’ hostel at AFGCS Jos is designed to accommodate a maximum of 64 final year students while the new residential block would accommodate 120 airmen/airwomen of 551 NAF Station Jos."
The guest of hounour at the occasion, the governor of Jos, Simon Lalong, commissioned the two projects.
Lalong commended the consistency and painstaking efforts of the chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in ensuring that all personnel of the NAF are decently accommodated.
He also commended the Nigerian Air Force on the newly built girls' hostel.

Lalong said: "This is nothing but an enviable edifice any parent would want his or her daughter to live in”.
The governor said the people of Plateau state would continue to be grateful to the NAF for its role in protecting lives and properties in the state.
“The recent establishment of 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group and the pace of ongoing construction works at the site of the new unit in Kerang is an evidence of the sincere concern of the CAS for the security of lives in the state."
In his remarks, Abubakar said the completion of the two projects is another giant stride towards the accomplishment of NAF’s objective of improving the welfare of personnel for enhanced professionalism and service delivery.
“It is also part of our deliberate effort at enhancing the quality of boarding facilities for the students’ in NAF schools with a view to creating a very conducive atmosphere for learning.
"Accordingly, the NAF maintains, as part of its policy thrust, a commitment to welfare and infrastructural development aimed at positioning its personnel for effective response to Service exigencies," the chief of air staff said.

He also said that the impact of an aggressive infrastructural development in the NAF is that over 75% of its personnel are now accommodated in the barracks as against 45% in July 2015.
Abubakar said that the ability to concentrate a larger number of the Service’s workforce in the barracks was a significant advantage in terms of response to emergencies, regimentation and esprit-de-corps among personnel.
He also promised that the Nigerian air force would continue to place premium on addressing its infrastructural deficits with the objective of creating the enabling environment and motivation for effective and efficient operations by its personnel.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Air Force on Thursday, November 30, graduated 414 special forces of its personnel.
The personnel - 396 were airmen, airwomen and 18 were officers - had undergone various special courses, which include intermediate regiment airmen course and special forces course.
Others are basic regiment officers course and basic regiment airmen, and airwomen course.
