Defence headquarters reacts to report of 9 soldiers killed by Boko Haram

- The Defence Headquarters says it is a big lie the report indicting the Nigerian Air Force in the alleged killing of 9 soldiers in Yobe

- Earlier reports claim the soldiers, including an officer were killed by insurgents as a result of NAF's negligence

- The security organisation urges Nigerians to disregard the report

The Nigerian defence headquarters has reacted to media reports that the inaction of the Air Force caused the death of an army officer and eight soldiers in Yobe state.

The security officials were said to have been killed by Boko Haram insurgents in an attack.

The defence headquarters called the accusation of the Nigerian Air Force ill-motivated news saying it should be disregarded by the general public as it lacks merit.

In a statement obtained by Legit.ng, the defence headquarters said: “It should be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force conducted Operation RUWAN WUTA 1 in September this year in support of the Nigerian Army, which recorded massive successes in further eliminating remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists in the North East.

“As a result, the Air Force re-strategized and embarked on operations RUWAN WUTA II which is ongoing alongside clearance operations with the Nigerian Army, all under Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

“Hence, it is not possible for the Nigerian Air Force to refuse to provide air cover to the Nigerian Army at this moment of its peak air activity.

“The Nigeria Army, Navy and Air Force have always been operating jointly and equally synergized in their common spheres of influence to bring the necessary force to bear, on all targets in operations and battle field.

“Therefore, the ill motivated story should be discarded.”

The spokesperson of 3 Division with tactical headquarters in Damaturu Col. Kayode Ogunsanya confirmed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the state capital.
