I am as good as any man! Pioneering female firefighter, 35, breaks new ground for others to follow

A 35-year-old female firefighter in Harare, Zimbabwe, considers herself as good as any man in her profession.

Agnes Chinzvende who has been a firefighter for 11 years, is the longest-serving female firefighter at the Harare Fire Services Department.

She hopes her pioneering career would inspire other women to join the firefighting profession.

In an interview with H-Metro, she said: "I am as good as any man who is in the department. I feel like a hero because I have broken new ground.

As a female pioneer, I feel it is my obligation and duty to encourage other women to join the department."

The mother-of-three added that women can also be leaders because she has already led men on many firefighting missions.

Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni echoed Chinzvende's sentiments. He said: "We have equal opportunities for both men and women so everyone should be empowered to join any department they want."
