Politicians now sponsoring Boko Haram over 2019 presidential election - NPI
- The recent increase in Boko Haram activities around the north-eastern part of Nigeria is becoming a cause for concern
- Mohammed Sahnun Idris, the president of the Non-Violent Peace Initiative, linked this increase to politicians
The recent increase in attacks carried out by Boko Haram against security agents and citizens have a link with the coming 2019 presidential election, a civil society group, Non-Violent Peace Initiative (NPI), has revealed.
NPI alleged that some politicians were behind the new rise in the attacks by the terrorist group.

The claim is coincided with the abduction of some oil workers in the north-eastern part of country by the group.
Daily Trust quoted the NPI president, Mohammed Sahnun Idris, as saying in Abuja as confirming that the current administration actually defeated Boko Haram.
What is currently happening in relation to the activities of the group is mere politics, he said.
“As far as we are concerned, Boko Haram has been defeated by the Buhari government. The recent attacks perpetrated by the sect are mere political game ahead of 2019,” he said.
He pleaded with the government and security agencies in the country to tackle the political aspect of the terrorist activities before it degenerates to another humanitarian crisis.

“Our organization, in partnership with government, has initiated a peaceful dialogue in the liberated areas of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa with the view to supporting and sustaining the efforts of the government in returning peace and hope to these states” he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng recently reported that Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack against the Hunters Association killing its commander, Bukar Jimeta, and three of his men in Adamawa state.
The terrorists engaged in a gun fight with the hunters n Dagu, a Borno village along the border with Adamawa throughout the night of Saturday, July 22.
