According to the Akwa Ibom state commissioner of police, Mr Don Awunah, the state is currently ranked the lowest in terms of crime index in the country with the state government providing over 70 per cent of the patrol vehicles including other logistics.
Mr Awunah spoke on how this was achieved, saying that the command is adopting four basic principles to combat crime namely: preventive techniques, response rate, detective rate and clearance rate.
He also said for effective policing, the state, local governments, divisions and communities have been sectorised with each of the sector headed by a dedicated police officer.
According to This Day, while briefing newsmen in his office on Wednesday, May 31, the police chief said that there was also a solid crime preventive network and patrol system being implemented in the state including Quick Response Squad (QRS), Eagles Patrol system, Safe Golf, Aduman and Rapid Respond Unit (RRU).

In conclusion, he said the input and collaboration of all stakeholders made policing a success in the state, stressing that the issue bordering on crimes must not be politicised.

Legit.ng earlier reported that many officers of Nigerian police were feared dead after suspected officers of Nigerian Navy stormed a police division in Calabar, on Tuesday night.
According to witnesses, the attack began shortly after 8:30 p.m., and was still underway as at 10:19 p.m. at Akim Divisional Headquarters.
