Admission requirements overview

Yahaya outlines the general admission requirements for NSUK, highlighting that they follow a standard five-subject criterion, depending on the program or course a candidate wishes to pursue. He said:

Typically, candidates must have credits in Mathematics and English at their O-level. The other three subjects depend on the particular course they are applying for.

Course-specific requirements

Each course at NSUK has specific subject requirements that candidates must meet. Prospective students can visit the university's website for detailed course information and subject specifications. This resource lists the courses you must sit for during your Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME) and each course's required O-level subject combinations.

To illustrate, Yahaya provides an example from the university's Faculty of Administration, which includes courses like accounting, banking and finance, business administration, entrepreneurship, public administration, marketing, taxation, and security and investment studies. He explained that:

For these courses, candidates must have taken two mandatory subjects in their JAMB UTME: Mathematics and Economics. Additionally, English is a compulsory UTME subject for all tertiary institution candidates.

Common challenges and advice

Yahaya also addresses a common issue faced by prospective students. He mentioned:

There is often a disparity in course selection because many post-applicant undergraduate students are unaware of the specific requirements during their JAMB registration. They choose subjects they believe they can pass easily, which might not align with the required criteria for their desired courses.
The system has evolved over the past few years, and students must understand that their subject combinations must meet the specific requirements of their chosen program.

Understanding the cut-off marks

Yahaya concluded by explaining the significance of cut-off marks in the admissions process. He said:

Every year, we have a cut-off mark set per the guidelines from the JAMB matriculation board.
