36 people have been killed in a fatal accident after a school bus carrying students swerved off a steep road and fell into a ravine.
The fatal accident occurred on Saturday morning, May 6, in Arusha city, Tanzania’s northern Karatu district on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Legit.ng gathered that 33 of the children who were heading for an exam died in the fatal crash.
Police commander, Charles Mkumbo, revealed that the accident happened on a hill with a steep slope when it was raining. Mkumbo said: “The place where it happened is a hill, with a steep slope, and it was raining when the accident happened.”
“We don’t know if the driver was new or if there was a mechanical defect.”
According to CNN, two students age 12 and 13 years old, survived the accident with critical injuries.
It was gathered that the bus driver and two teachers died in the crash.

Tanzanian President Johm Magufuli expressed shock and sadness over the loss of lives in the accident. He said: “The accident has cut short the dreams of students who were preparing to serve the nation.”
