UPDATED: 2 dead as building collapses in Lagos

- A building has reportedly collapsed in Lekki, Lagos

- Official of the Lagos emergency agency said there were “casualties”

Legit.ng learnt that a part of an uncompleted building has collapsed on Thursday afternoon in Lagos, killing 2 persons.

According to Premium Times, the incident occurred at NICON Town Estate, off Admiralty way, Lekki.

The news outlet gathered that some of the people around the building when it collapsed sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to Premium Times, when contacted, an official of the Lagos emergency agency said there were “casualties”.

He however said rescue effort is ongoing at the site of the collapse.

Legit.ng had recently reported that Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria, is in the throes of building collapse killing scores of citizens and injuring many across the country.

This has continuously occurred over the years while the government and the regulatory agencies remain mute as citizens die the most painful deaths ever.

Rather than take drastic actions against the incessant building collapse either against the contractors and owners of the structures or strengthen the regulatory agencies in a bid to enforce laws guiding the building and construction industry in the nation, the government remains unmindful of the series of deaths occasioned by building collapse across the nation.

In this video by Legit.ng, an old woman pleaded with Lagos state government not to demolish her building.
