House of Reps demands extension of JAMB registration

Reprieve may come the way of candidates experiencing difficulty in registering for the 2017 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as the House of Representatives has demanded an extension of one month duration for ongoing registration.

The House made the call for the extension of the ongoing registration exercise following a resolution contained in the motion sponsored by Danburam Abubakar Nuhu (APC, Kano), Vanguard reports.
The House mandated its committee on basic education and services to liaise with JAMB on the extension in order to create more space for prospective applicants.
The lower chamber said the one month period set aside by JAMB should be extended by another one month due to the myriad of challenges faced by prospective applicants.

Legit.ng learnt that the House also urged JAMB to deploy safety equipment at each registration centre to forestall any incident of stampede due to overcrowding.
The lawmakers further asked JAMB to specify the requirements, including safety measures, which qualified any centre to participate in the conduct of the UTME computer-based test.
Legit.ng recalls that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), had stated that so far registered 600,000 candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country.
Dr Fabian Benjamin, Head of Public Relations JAMB, made this known on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bwari, FCT.
He said that JAMB was not going to extend the registration period, saying that before deadline every candidate will register.
