Former militants shower encomium on Niger Delta Affairs minister
As indications are rife that President Muhammadu Buhari may sack 10 ministers from the cabinet, whom many describe as being ineffective in their ministerial assignments, a group in the Niger Delta has thrown its weight behind the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, saying he has done well in the almost two years he has been in office.
The endorsement may be coming out of fear that the president may throw him out of office, although the president is yet to make known who is to go or who remain, even as fears are growing among the ministers in the cabinet.
The Niger Delta group, the National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, in an e-mail to Legit.ng, said among all the ministers so far appointed by the president, Usani performed more creditably than others.
Although the group had, during the protest against the appointment of one Tikari Danjuma to head the Niger delta riverine protection programme, called for the sack of the minister, insisting then that the minister goofed for giving appointment to an impostor, it has now found the minister worthy, perhaps for sacking the Tikari following the wide protest in the region.

According to the coalition’s national president, Eshanekpe Israel, Pastor Uguru is the only political appointee who is living up to the expectations of the people of the Niger Delta region, describing him as President Muhammadu Buhari ' s utter ego.
The endorsement, he said, came after an enlarged meeting of the group in Ughelli where the members x-rayed all the ministers and found him worthy of their support, having met their expectations in the discharge of his responsibilities to the volatile region.
The group held that aside from Pastor Usani Uguru no other minister from the region placed premium on both human and material development in the region other than flaunting their "empty ego and rascality that won't do us any good."
The former militants noted that during the reign of violence occasioned by the bombing of pipelines in a renewed militancy, Usani was handy, a development which culminated into the peace the region is currently enjoying today.

"Apart from making himself accessible to the people across social divides, Usani is proactively empirical in establishing the cardinal objectives of President Buhari's administration,” the statement said.
The group called on the Niger Delta people to sustain their support and love for the minister and by extension President Buhari’s government, adding that except for those who hate the Nigerian state, Deltans have implicit confidence in the ability of the administration to steer the ship of Nigerian state to safety.
