Stop deceiving Nigerians with phone calls, group tells President Buhari

Political parties in Nigeria under the aegis of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop toying with Nigerians by releasing every day report of phone calls he is making on vacation in London.

Ezugwu, CNPP secretary general, says Nigerians want good governance and not reports of phone calls

CNPP noted in a statement sent to Legit.ng and signed by Willy Ezugwu, its secretary general, that the almost daily reports of phone calls from the President to eminent Nigerians and other global leaders was becoming distracting.

Ezugwu said: “Federal Government should face governance issues that would alleviate the suffering of the masses.”

The statement read in part: “We see the continued media hype of President Buhari’s phone calls and possible photoshopped pictures of individual visits to his London hospital as a distraction.

“Why is Mr. President always calling from his sick bed to individuals at a time he should be resting to get well quick and return home?

“If he can be talking to individuals, what is difficult about talking to the nation in a live broadcast, where some citizens can call in and get his response?

CNPP says the presidency under Buhari would have to be more forth-coming with information about the president's true state of health and not be reporting phone calls.

“The Presidency should stop deceiving Nigerians and know that governance must not be based on lies and propaganda.

“At a time the average Nigerian does not know where the next meal will come from, we see the presidency toiling with people’s emotions rather than face governance issues to reduce the current suffering in the country.

“Enough of phone calls from President Buhari. It is time for the ruling party to deliver on its campaign promises and make life better for the citizens of Nigeria.”

CNPP's words come just days after President Buhari was reported to have called three Nigerians at home on Sunday, March 5.

The included former military head of state Yakubu Gowon who Buhari commiserated with over the death of his sister Kande Martha Audu a day earlier.

The call to Gown made it three calls that President Buhari made on Sunday alone.

Recall that presidential spokesman Femi Adesina confirmed the call to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 80th birthday on Sunday while Kingsley Fanwo, the spokesperson to Kogi state governor Yahya Bello also confirmed a second call from Buhari to his principal same day.
