Osinbajo to visit Akwa Ibom as part of peace deal with Niger Deltans
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is to pay an official visit to Akwa Ibom state on Thursday, March 2 just days after he earlier visited Rivers and Bayelsa states.
The visit, it was learnt, is part of the federal government’s effort to quell the restiveness in the Niger Delta region of the country.
Recently, attacks on oil installations in the region have seized and this is believed to be the result of the constant engagement with militants and agitators.

The APC NEWS TV, in revealing the official trip, said: “The Ag president, His Excellency, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, will be visiting Akwa Ibom state on Thursday, 2nd March, 2017 for a town hall meeting with the stakeholders, political class, as well as other well-meaning personalities in the state.”
It is yet to be known the number of days the president is to spend in the state.
In a recent interview, High Chief Mike Loyibo, the convener of the Niger Delta Peoples Congress (NDPC), revealed that Osinbajo’s tour of the region has necessitated the much-needed peace in the region.
“When we assess the issues generally, my view has been that you can’t develop the Niger-Delta without her people’s participation and this is the first time that any government ever is involving the critical stakeholders at all levels and so the consultation is a continuous one.
