- Bayelsa government has reportedly abandoned several important projects in the state due to lack of fund
- The state according to data from Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) receives N99 billion revenue in 2016
- The state government despite owing civil servants 6 months salary has however approve a state loan of N3 billion to buy cars for legislators and other government officials
The leadership of the Federated Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, in a two day-tour round Bayelsa has lamented the alarming rate at which the Bayelsa government is abandoning project despite receiving N99 billion revenue in 2016.
The tour was inspired by the outrage that followed the news that Bayelsa state house of assembly has approved a loan of N 3 billion for the state government to procure cars for legislators and political office holders.
Reports by the NUJ shows that the state owes workers a six-month backlog of salaries over the past year and has abandoned several other projects.

According to Sahara Reporters, the contractor handling the Bayelsa Airport runway, apron and a terminal building said that, contrary to earlier reports that the project was almost ready, work done so far stood at 45 per cent completion.
Also, renovation at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex appeared to be going at a slow pace. The project’s Chief Security Officer, Teddy Bali, also reportedly said that the project was suffering from inadequate funding, a major reason for its incompletion.
