How “white man” was killed in Boko Haram battle – Buratai

- He however said that no foreigner was captured by troops from Sambisa forest
The chief of army staff Tukur Buratai has said that a “white man” was killed during a gun battle with Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest.
Buratai who spoke to Daily Trust said the incident happened when troops of the Nigerian army launched an attack against the terrorists in the forest.
Debunking reports on the capture of a foreigner in the forest, Buratai said troops did not capture any white man.

He said a man white a light skin was among the casualties in an operation launched by the troops against Boko Haram elements.
“We did not capture any white man but the troop in the process of the firefight, somebody who has a lighter skin, who was suspected to be a white man, was among those that were casualties. It could be that it is from that it filtered out that a white man was captured," Buratai said.

“Even the picture they have been showing on social media was that of a German hostage who was rescued from Boko Haram by Cameroonian troops. Someone with a lighter skin was involved in the firefight inside Sambisa Forest and was killed along with others.
“That is the only information we know about somebody like a white man. Any other story is just a speculation” he said.
Nigerian army is set to send in troops for possible intervention in Gambia should President Yahya Jammeh refuse to concede power on January 19.
A memo by the Nigerian army said a battalion of 800 troops is being prepared for the intervention.
The memo, reportedly signed by the army chief describes the force as ECOMIG, or ECOWAS Mission in Gambia.
