JUST IN: Abdulmumini Jibrin loses House of Reps seat in Kano

- Honourable Abdulmumini Jibrin is not returning to the House of Representatives

- The former influential member of the lower house lost his seat to his rival from the PDP

- Jibrin has been having a running battle with the leaders of APC in Kano state

Honourable Abdulmumini Jibrin has lost his bid to return to the green chambers.

Jibrin who is of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost his seat to his rival, Alhaji Ali Datti Yako, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the rerun election for the Kiru/ Bebeji federal constituency held on Saturday, January 25.

Announcing the result of the polls, the returning officer, Prof.essor Abdullahi Arabi said, Yako scored 48,641 votes defeating Jibrin who scored 13,507 votes.

The 43-year old politician who has been in the House of Representatives since 2011, is said to have fallen out with key stakeholders of the APC in Kano state.

After his nomination of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Jibrin was expected to be voted as the majority leader of the house but he was ignored.

Jibrin was also not given the chairmanship of any committee in the lower house, an action suggesting his relationship with Gabajabiamila has broken down.

Jibrin, however, dismissed the rumours, saying his relationship with the speaker was cordial and he will rather not chair any committee.

He was a former member of the PDP before he decamped to the APC.

Reactions have begun flooding in, especially on social media, after Jibrin lost.

A known APC supporter, D Olusegun wrote on Twitter: “When Abdulmumin Jibrin was blocked by Ganduje's security from going upstairs to the Africa House to congratulate Ganduje after Supreme Court victory, I knew no there was no coming back.”

Abdulaziz Bakare wrote: “According to reports, APC leaders decided to support PDP nominee against their own party nominee AbdulMumin Jibrin with the understanding that the PDP nominee must defect to APC after wining.”

Kelvin Igwe wrote: “Abdulmumin Jibrin was def trying to play on both sides. Now they have waylaid him. It’s good to be consistent.”

Abdullahi Yusuf wrote: “What is happening to Abdulmumin Jibrin? What did he do to Kano State Government to deserve this? I know we will say this is politics but Nigeria’s version of politics is disgusting.”

Similarly, the APC lost in the supplementary election conducted in Bauchi state for the House of Representatives rerun election for Zaki federal constituency.

The party was defeated by the ruling PDP in the state as its candidate, Hon Auwal Jatau, won the election.
